Shortcuts: [ v7 ] or [ v9 ]
Don't worry, you'll be a *wiz* at this stuff in NO time! To use a pre-determined color, no matter what version of PSP or Animation shop you're using, simply click on your color pallette (toggle it from the toolbar if it's not already showing) and type the HEX# code into the box at the bottom right of the window that pops up.
Find step by step pictorial instruction for both versions of PSP below!
PSP v7
In this earlier version of PSP, you first have to make sure your color palette is showing. To do this, toggle (left mouse click) your color palette button, which looks like this:

Once your color palette is open, you will notice two sets of color boxes which represent the foreground (labled as "F") and background (labled as "B").
Shown below:
Left mouse click either of the two color boxes at the top of your color palette to open up your color picker, shown below:

If you already know the HEX code (number and letter combination) for the color you want to use, enter it in the box at the bottom of color picker window that is labled "HTML code". Click OK, and your color will be set!
TIP:The easiest way to choose your color is to use the dropper tool, by left mouse clicking this icon:

Using the dropper tool, you can choose any color of the images that are open within your PSP workspace! Left click to assign a color to your foreground, and right click to assign a color to your background on the color palette.
